Our blog

Say hello to Alin, our brand-new assembly engineer

Server Storage Solutions is in full expansion. Over the past few weeks, we’ve hired not 1, not 2, but 3 new employees. Excited to meet them? Then you’re in luck: We’re going to introduce all of them to you on our blog.

Last week, we introduced assembly engineer Olivier Coppens. This week, it’s Alin Rus’s turn. Alin also joined S3S as an assembly engineer. Want to learn more about him? Then scroll down and start reading!

Hi Alin, nice to meet you! Can you introduce yourself to our visitors?

Alin: Thanks! My name is Alin Rus, I’m 40 years old and I live in Oudenaarde, together with my wife. In my free time, I like to play sports: I love cycling with my wife or playing soccer with friends. Unfortunately, I haven’t had many opportunities to play soccer lately because of the corona crisis.

I’m originally from Romania, but my wife and I moved here about 10 years ago during the economic crisis. Since then, I’ve been taking classes to learn Dutch. Sorry for my accent!

Not at all! So how did you end up applying for the position at S3S?

Alin: I have a degree in electromechanics, but I’ve always had a passion for IT. I love playing around with new software and testing what you can do with it. And I’m also the go-to guy whenever people have problems with their computer.

I had been working in logistics for a while when I decided it was time to pursue a career that was closer to my passion. So I gave up my job, completed a system administrator training and started looking for a new opportunity.

What attracted you to the job of assembly engineer specifically?

Alin: I came across a lot of helpdesk jobs, but those aren’t really my cup of tea: I don’t like being tied to a desk but prefer to keep my hands busy.

So the vacancy for assembly engineer was a much better fit for me. Now, I get to build servers every day!

You’ve been working for S3S for a little while now. How have the first weeks been?

Alin: I’ve been at S3S for 5 weeks now and it’s been great. I learned a lot in these first weeks – I knew what a desktop computer looks like on the inside, but servers are quite different.

I was taught every step of the process, from choosing the right parts to checking the BIOS of the finished installation. And I discover new things every day: I’ve already built 20 different kinds of servers, both small and big ones.

My colleagues are also great and there’s a fun atmosphere here. I’ve worked at places before where colleagues made fun of my accent, but there’s none of that at S3S. They are all friendly and warm people.

What do you hope the future holds for you at S3S?

Alin: Well first of all, I hope I can continue to discover new things every day. And when the time is right, I hope to grow into a more senior role.

S3S has a lot of potential for growth as a company, not just in Belgium but around the globe. They already have a strong presence in Eastern Europe, so who knows, maybe my Romanian roots can be of help to S3S in the future.

That all sounds great. Good luck and take care!
